A Notable CAF Commander
Captain-General Horace Shaw
Altess Dynasty Region, Anvil Galaxy

Horace Shaw is a man out of time. He is a capable leader of men, an excellent strategist, but is handicapped by the fact that the Consortium that he faithfully serves has not gone to war in over five centuries. Indeed, even though the CCW fought the Transgalactic Empire (TGE) Armada 20 years ago in the Anvil Galaxy, the action was kept low-key and limited for fear of igniting a full-scale conflict. It has been Consortium policy since the First Great War against the Kreeghor the TGE to avoid a total war scenario at any cost.

Commander Captain-General Shaw, who can trace his heritage back to those who fought against the machines in the Automaton Wars, has on several occasions, claimed that this course of action is producing a weaker CCW rather than a stronger one.

There is now no one in the entire CAF who has seen mass combat, leaving the Fleet with a disturbing lack of veteran commanders and captains. Shaw has made numerous public statements on this matter, but sadly, they have been mostly dismissed as reactionary and warmongering. Finally, embarrassed by this "raving old man", Fleet Command sent him to patrol the one sector of space where he was certain not to get himself into any trouble - The Altess Dynasty.

Although not currently part of the Consortium of Civilized Worlds, the CCW would dearly love to have the Altess back in the fold one day. The CCW maintains a small fleet near Altess Prime just in case they should have to come to the Dynasty's rescue. This has never happened, and is impossible to imagine ever happening, making this assignment the closest thing to exile that the CAF Fleet can come up with. Even if Altess Prime were attacked by an especially audacious enemy, the Altess would simply buy them off, or failing that, annihilate them with the robot armies of the Armoria.

Captain-General Shaw is fully aware that he has been swept under the political rug, but as an officer, he carries out his duty with honor and efficiency. His tiny fleet - one Protector (the CSS Restoration), 4 Packmasters, 10 Warshields, and 30 Scimitars -keeps tabs on everything happening within 500 light-years of the Altess homeworld. They have seen no action in the two years since Shaw arrived, as was expected.

The joke may soon be on the CAF, however. The Golgan military, newly refitted thanks to their Tachyonic Antitelephone, have set their sights on Altess Prime. They seek revenge for the last rebuffing the Altess gave the Republik some 300 years ago. The Golgans are certain that with correct timing, the Altess Dynasty can be crippled and captured. As for the Armoria, while it is true that they have tens of billions of robotic defenders to unleash, most of these robots are in storage on Novus IX. Unknown to nearly everyone, the entire world is about to disappear in a chronal distortion (see Anvil Galaxy, page 116), breaking the backbone of the Armoria in one flash of light. When that happens, the Golgans will see that the time is right, and attack the Dynasty. The Golgans cannot be bought or bargained with, and the Altess will have no other choice but to call for assistance.

Captain-General Shaw, ever ready for war, will be put in charge of the defense of one of the most valuable pieces of real estate in the Anvil Galaxy, and lead the charge into the first real war the Consortium has seen in centuries.

Malachi Yoba
A bad-boy pirate with a amazing skill at interstellar commerce, he can easily turn a dime into a dollar with his galaxy-wide connections. He's a ugly enemy to have since he has secretly cloned himself several dozens times to grow his criminal empire: just when you think you've killed the guy, he comes back for more (well one of his clones does anyways). Captain Yoba has over 100 cargo ships at his disposal, and he also
has his own personal ships, but rarely goes on a "run" with them, preferring to sit back and enjoy his harem of girls, while overseeing his growing profits. He deals in all forms of cargo (especially female slavery) and can be found on dozens of worlds and space stations across the Anvil Galaxy.

Talia Rosa
This pirate captain is based on the Hogg Moons and she carries out operations against the Golgan Republik on a regular basis. Sometimes she pretends to be a "regular" merchant captain and she has developed a vast network of moving goods (and some times people) clandestinely across the spacelanes. She has a good nature, but cannot brook human trafficking, and that goes double for female slavery.

Ignot Mallot
An alien from Fortran V, Ignot is a "happy" trader who can find goods and services for anyone, at any time (that's his motto). He specializes in exotic animals and spices and he's the only known trader of Long John in the Anvil Galaxy. Having an extensive trade network, there is a 60% chance he can find whatever a client is looking for, and he charges outrageously too boot!

Ta'Kenny Gamor
A infamous pirate with a well-known reputation for personal duels, Ta'Kenny is human and hails from the CCW. He is "Not A Nice Guy", trafficking in mostly illegal products and sentient slavery. Hauling around female or child captives doesn't bother him one whit, so if your lover or kid is missing, Gamor probably has his hand in the affair.

Hilda Braun
A archo-historian from the Cathedral Worlds, she is one of the few specialists in the field of synth-fossils. She often hires commercial spaceship crews to haul her and her team around various Ancestor sites. These elder worlds often yield amazing technology, and make a tempting target, which is why she often hires armed mercs to help protect her and her various digs.

Milo Loiel
A armed mercenary from the interdicted star system Geminos Minor, he is a cloned moreau, spliced between a lionel and a Kreeghor. This makes him one of the most physically strong bipeds in the Anvil Galaxy. He and his team of mercenaries have a great deal of experience, and are often seen guarding newly established colonies and archaeology digs.

Chasandra Remington
A scientist hailing from one of the Golgan worlds, she is a independent contractor that researches new products for her corporate employers. She can be seen travelling from planet to planet, looking for new products and often needs bodyguards or just seeking transportation between worlds. She is single and dallies occasionally with big muscular guys (totally her type).

Troyius Oceanus
The youngest son of the god Poseidon, he is a godling that is often bored so he travels the Three Galaxies in search of new alien beings to physically fight with. He has been rebuked by his father for his lazy adventuring but Troyius has ignored him to date. He is the perfect tank for any mercenary team.

Ander Beck
A genius level cyber-whiz, this young man takes contracts from nearly anyone, anywhere, at any time; he's in it for the bucks and has no ethics or morality. He's wanted on a dozen worlds for hacking, trolling, and for political reasons. Anders base of operations is on Phase World and he's one of the best in his field; cyber jacking and electronic B&E.

Marlin Gernicka
A arms dealer specializing in exotic weaponry, Marlin can be found on various space stations, hawking his goods directly out of his cargo transports' hold. His ship, the Big Betty, travels the spacelanes in search of people to sell weapons too. The only arms he refuses to carry are Naruni weaponry, which are often banned by many races.

Adem Markowitz
Hailing from the high-population world Mycos, Adem is one of the galaxy's best pilots. He has a inbred natural instinct that lets him fly virtually anything in space and in atmosphere. He is a gun-for-hire, selling his services to the highest bidder (but he will never act against his homeworld). He is young, brilliant, and has a weakness for good booze and women, lots and lots of women.

Illya of Llyra
This well-known elf is one of the United Worlds of Warlock best ley line operators, with the ability to actually form mystical gates in space if a powerful source of the magical energy is nearby (ie a planet). He is a magical specialist, called in to close unruly and unknown gates and he's also related to several lines of royalty within the UWW.

Margot Waddingham
"Mad Mad Margo" is the nick-name her fellow scientists gave this homicidal maniac. Unfortunately she is also the Anvil Galaxies' top nano-doctor, a brilliant scientist in her own right. People who have no other medical alternatives often seek her help for cures, often to their detriment. She can be found at science colonies.

ACDC-6447A
This cybernetic alien is a data-miner for hire. Blueprints for that unstoppable battlestation? Yeah he probably has that. Salacious gossip about your enemys' mother? He has that too. Looking for important data on the Interlink or the Subverse? He can help. All for a payment, of course. ACDC can be found on random high tech worlds and orbital space stations.
