THE GOLGAN REPUBLIK
The Golgan Republik contains a wild array of alien races, but most of them are in the process of abandoning the Republik for a better life on their own. The Golgans themselves are still the dominant race, and a number of other races can be expected to stand with them for the time being. However, it will only be a matter of time and circumstance before those minions go off on their own, leaving the Golgans to fend for themselves once more. The Golgans are an amphibious race that have lived long in the Anvil Galaxy, at times ruling huge portions of it. The Golgans of today are a far cry from what they once were. Originally a happy and outgoing people, the Golgans have gradually turned cold, cynical, and paranoid. Their once great accomplishments have been lost to greed and war. Their current situation is the direct result of being invaded and attacked by their neighbors so many times. As a result, the Golgans trust nobody but themselves, and no government that does not have entirely Golgan leadership at the head of it. They still maintain a veneer of civility and warmth to non-Golgans and to foreigners to their society, but make no mistake: behind every Golgan smile or handshake is a nervous alien waiting for the moment to pull his sidearm and start firing.

NOTE: More about the Golgans can be found in the Palladium Books.

THE GOLGAN GLOSSARY IS LOCATED HERE

THE AZULI

The Azuli are a client race of the Golgans. Yes, this is the alien race that created nova bombs during the Final War in the Lance Pattern, the bombs which decimated the Llyra System and killed billions of sentients. Their racial aggression has neither lessened with the passage of time nor the presence of heavy Golgan occupation forces over their homeworld. A forcibly regressed technological species, the humanoid Azuli are nonetheless some of the best Attack Marines in the Golgan Empire. If and when the opportunity lends itself, the Azuli will surely assert their independence once again.

THE BANDERI

The Banderi are a low-tech alien race that was conquered by the Golgan Republik millennia ago and they have remained a subservient species ever since. They make very specialized sonic and underwater weaponry, mainly various beam weapons and blue-green hand-held lasers: no other race makes these multi-spectrum ocean penetrating lasers.

These aliens are fantastically productive and have been imported to many Golgan water planets, mainly for sea life maintenance duties. All Banderi are fairly passive; they are never aggressive unless the member of their race is legally insane.

THE BENNITES

This spider-like race have been conquered by various races but currently their overlords are the Golgans, who they do not favor. Their homeworld is massive and covered in constant ashfall. It is also the only known location of the mineral that can produce the rare collapsium armor. Bennites never sell the raw ore (called orellium), only the final military product: tremendously dense but capable armor plating for warships.

Bennaris its hot, ash covered, volcanic, is about 3 Earth gravities, making the natives incredibly hardy and light MDC creatures. Their many faceted eyes make it almost impossible to sneak up on a Bennite and they can speak any audial language, including tone languages.

THE BIBROON

This race of aliens are descended from a hunter predators that evolved on tremendously large (and cold) gas giants. As a species, they have spread out over time from their homeworld to hundreds of other star systems, colonizing strictly gas giant worlds. Most live within the confines of the Golgan Republik and they are widely known across the Three Galaxies as brilliant mathematicians. They are aggressive in warfare but genial in social situations with other alien races.

THE DRAXX'X

This alien race is militant in the extreme, and are used by the Golgans as shock troops and boarding marines. The Draxx'x are deadly in combat with outsiders and amongst themselves. Their homeworld is desolate and has strongly reinforced the competition instinct in these aliens. They are hated by all who oppose them on the battlefield as the Draxx'x often eat the dead of their enemies. They prefer hand to hand combat and are minor MDC creatures. They are often sold as low-rent mercenaries across the Three Galaxies but their ill-temper often limits their true value.

THE FLORIANS

With a homeworld covered by 99% water, the Florians are an aquatic race that has flourished beneath the vast oceans. They build much technology and specialize in underwater weaponry, especially in the field of blue-green lasers and sonic devices. They get along well with other races and bear no ill-will against their Golgan overlords, however when the Republik enters its final stages the Florians will venture out on their own, seeking independence. More than 100 billion Florians live on their home planet. These aliens can often be seen on Golgan warships, but rarely on any other vessels; they dislike interstellar travel and will only do so when "press ganged". Their natural body color is blue-green and they are the apex predator on their homeworld, a planet located deep within Republik space.

THE HUS

This alien race are known across the Three Galaxies as the best geneticists in the universe. When approached for work, they will only repair genetic diseases and damage, and they are extraordinarily good at these medical fixes. In fact, the Hus have never failed to cure any debilitating illness when they put their multi-brain minds to it. They also appear to have a limited telepathic ability amongst themselves, but at limited ranges. The Hus never leave their homeworld.

THE KNNN

Looking like a centipede, the Knnn are the size of a standard human. They are methane breathers and enjoy extremely cold temperatures. The Knnn are also an extremely aggressive race and they do not welcome outsiders to their home planet; in fact the Golgans have it interdicted using military vessels. Any craft that tries to land or take off from Knnn Prime will be shot down, no questions asked. Orbiting satellites warn potential visitors away and the only reason any one would visit the planet is to buy some of the highly valuable kyrin crystals, a mineral that is used by people with psionic powers. These crystals are fabulously expensive and are said to increase the strength and distance of a psi-users' power.

GOLGAN PLANET CLASSIFICATIONS
Explored worlds of the Golgan Republik are classified by the Bureau of Planetary Registry according to a number of criteria. The classifications used by the Bureau of Registry are quite precisely defined--but, as with any bureaucracy, the guidelines can be bent, in either direction, for economic or political considerations.

Class I: Full Habitat Membership. These worlds have all rights and responsibilities of Empire membership, including three representatives on the Golgan Council and unrestricted trade and exchange of information. This class includes planets with world governments and native populations with a high level of technology (1990+). Alien worlds, upon reaching a population of 100 million people and having a significant manufacturing capacity, also qualify for Class I.

Class II: Associate Membership. These worlds have world governments. Class II status is usually available only to worlds at a medium tech level (1950s or better), although this requirement is occasionally waived. Each of these planets has one representative on the Council. Limited exchange of goods and technologies between Class II planets and other systems is permitted.

Class III: Wardship. These worlds are under Golgan Naval protection. Status is similar to Class II, but a world government is not required.

Class IV: Inhabited Primitive. Trade of goods and technologies with Class IV worlds is heavily restricted. Natives of Class IV worlds are not normally permitted to visit other planets.

Class V: Unstatused. This group contains unusable planets, inhabited worlds not aligned with the Golgan Empire, and newly discovered worlds about which little is known.

Class VI: Hardship. Planetary conditions restricts development to the point that advanced technology is required for survival.

Class VII: Potential Colony. This class contains registered worlds suitable for habitation and available for colonization.

Class VIII: Frontier Colony. These worlds are not developed enough in resources or population to qualify for Class I membership. Frontier colonies are usually protected by Golgan naval units.

Class IX: General Colony. Class XI status is assigned to worlds deemed unlikely to develop into Class I worlds, due to planetary ecology or political instability.

Class X: Commercial Interest. This class contains planets, moons, and asteroids unsuitable for colonization, but available for commercial exploitation.

Under Edict. A restriction placed on planets that harbor a threat to the Golgan Republik or otherwise warrant a strict "hands off" policy. No communication or landing may be made. Golgan naval warships usually patrol these systems to ensure the edict is maintained. Any unauthorized vessel approaching within five planetary diameters of a world under edict will be fired Upon.
