KULU GLOSSARY

Admiral Valentine: a hundred years ago the Golgan Republik attacked the Kulu Kingdom during the "Three Weeks War" and military commander Jacob Valentine was able to fight off the much larger Golgan fleet near the world Gandy. With this dramatic victory, he became an overnight hero within the Kingdom and a common name in galactic circles.

AI Lords: The AI Lords are an extremely powerful group of advanced artificial intelligences who control entire fleets and act much like pirates and warlords. Individually their forces are on par with most major planets in the Anvil Galaxy. Some of them are even more powerful than that. They raid entire worlds and small interstellar kingdoms for resources and are only kept in check by one another, as well as some outside forces. They keep their fleets hidden, mainly in subspace, waiting for opportunities to strike at weak targets in the Anvil Galaxy, again mainly for plunder. Small kingdoms like Kulu are their preferred objectives. The five AI Lords are Lachesis, Imperious, Overlord, Nomad, and Tyrannus.

Angel Confederation: a precursor state to the creation of the Kulu Kingdom, it consisted of six industrial planets: Electra, Harlequin Station, Sarogossa, Celestia, Drago III, and the Streak System. All are now part of the Kulu Kingdom.

Arcturon: a seriously overpopulated city-planet located in the core of Kulu space, millions of its inhabitants are forcibly resettled every year onto other worlds in an effort to prevent the economic collapse of this strategically placed world. This forced colonization is often enforced by Kulu Marines, a posting which most troopers loathe. Arcturon produces little to no goods for off-world consumption. Population is estimated at 400 billion people.

Ardlussa: a very productive world of the Kingdom, more than 20 billion people call the planet home. Ardlussa is one of the core worlds of the Kingdom and is properly protected by a large naval force.

Aviary-class troopships: a very large transport vessel that carries Kulu Marines around Kingdom space, it is capable of orbital assault for its Marine contingent but is only lightly armed and armored. They replace the older Concord-class ships and more than 250 have been constructed for the Kingdom Navy.

Boost: a military drug intended for temporary use during combat situations, it is primarily used by Kingdom Marines. It is only manufactured only on a medical moon in Kulu space.

Calpella: a important city-planet located in the core worlds of Kulu space, it is vastly productive, including manufacturing up to 40% of the Kingdoms' commercial goods. Population is estimated at 300 billion but census takers are unsure of the true numbers of people.

City-Planet: a city-planet is generally considered to be a world that is covered pole-to-pole with one large mega-city. The population of these type of worlds typically are in the hundreds of billions, with several like the planet Mycos being over a trillion in population. These types of worlds are huge markets for technology, investments, and consumer goods.

Cloning: the cloning of pets and meat (for eating) is allowed within the Kulu Kingdom, but the scientific act of cloning actual people is illegal. However, in the neighboring Hert Federation, cloned soldiers can be created in just a few days and are used widely, but within Kingdom space most clones have little to no rights. This puts both empires at odds with each other.

Cobra Raider: a enhanced super-soldier specializing in behind-the-lines covert warfare, their troopers are rare and extremely expensive to outfit. Less than a thousand are thought to have been made. Cobra raiders are enhanced cybernetically and are extremely lethal in combat situations.

Hackwork: a slang term that means a person has had some genetic engineering done on their DNA. In the Three Galaxies, most aliens have had some hackwork done; the basic package being a heightened immune system that can fight off most viral and bacteriological diseases. Some people have extensive hackwork done, including increased agility and strength, and expanded intelligence and creativity.

Haightmeyer Drive: this faster-than-light drive was invented more than 100 years ago by Kulu warp drive specialists. It was invented by a scientist named Doctor Karl Haightmeyer and it worked as a standard interstellar drive on a average spaceship. However, a secondary side effect was that a vessel mounting this drive had to clear the inner star system before it could be activated, otherwise it would pull the parent star and all planets orbiting it into subspace with it. This technique is how the Kulu government has been able to rearrange entire star systems within the Kingdom, placing more populous star systems near its more defensible core region. In addition, theoretically, the drive could be used to relocate a star system several thousand light years before the drive gave out. NOTE: This is a Top Secret system and has never been revealed to those outside of the top circles of Kulu leadership.

Hayter: this world is the location of the vast majority of Kulu R&D, including civilian and military research. New breakthroughs of weapons and cures for illnesses occur regularly on this planet. It is also the central location of all medical nanotech within the Kulu space. Being posted to this research world is considered the height of a persons career.

Heta Mawhinney: a human from the Kulu Worlds, she is the face of the Kulu Information Network (KIN) and she is the networks' top reporter. Trillions and trillions of sentients watch the KIN network daily.

Hetlasers: one of the primary weapons of Kulu Navy warships, these "hetrodynamic" energy weapons are devastating against even the most powerful spaceship armor. Since they are light-beam weapons, they pass through most shields automatically, doing damage directly to a ships' armor. They are never sold outside of Kulu space and are primarily located on capital warships.

Invid: The Invid are famous in the Three Galaxies for producing a powerful energy source, called "protoculture". The Invid themselves did not produce the protoculture but they lived off of the Flower of Life itself. A Golgan scientist (Zaldor) found the Invid Homeworld and began research on the unique floriculture of their planet. After several years he was able to figure out how to use the Flower of Life as a power source. Zaldon then stole many of the flowers and the Golgan Navy destroyed the rest on the Invid homeworld, defoliating the entire planet and enraging the Invids. Without their life-giving flower, the Invid have now mostly died out.

Invid Flower of Life: To understand protoculture you must understand The Invid Flower of Life. The so-called "Flower of Life" is a mysterious plant that was once indigenous exclusively to the Invid's homeworld: Optera, a swampy, wet world with a thick atmosphere that orbits a G2V star. The Flower of Life possesses several properties truly unique to any plant in the universe. One of those properties is the generation of incredible amounts of bio-energy. A properly germinated seed placed under constant pressure generates more energy than a nuclear power plant: clean, natural, non-polluting energy. This process inhibits the plant's growth, which in turn causes it to generate even more energy. Locked in stasis, the seed can power a modern city of millions, for generations. MORE HERE SOON

Kulu Marines: the premier armed forces of the Kulu Kingdom, these troopers are trained to fight on the ground and in space. Some use specialized (and very expensive) power armor while others focus on raids and orbital insertions. The troops that succeed in getting through boot camp on the grueling training world of Slaughterhouse go onto become embassy guards, act as ships' police, drop commandos, and planetary assault forces. They also secure enemy vessels that surrender, lead rescues from space wrecks, and ensure the security of strategic weapons (WMD) on board warships. Kulu Marines are prized for their skills, abilities, and tactical mobility.

Protoculture: MORE HERE But there's more. The use of this energy inside machines creates a paranormal link between man and machine. It is as if the bio-energy instills some essence of life-form to direct it. A quasi-life that requires a living, intelligent life-form to direct it. The psionic union between man and machine makes the mechanical device act more like an extension of the operator instead of a mere tool. It is this unique phenomenon that makes the Veritech Fighters, Alphas and other mecha (human and alien) so incredibly agile. The giant military machines react with almost human reflexes because they are effectively mechanical extensions of their pilots. Thus, the machines respond to the person's slightest movement.  MORE HERE SOON

Remmerswaal: Kulu planet, the only known location of the mineral dermallite in the Kulu worlds.

Replicator Sludge: Most Kulu gun/cannon systems use a replicator slurry to instantly manufacture ammunition. Each projectile is custom made in mere seconds based on the muzzle size or the gun or cannon mounted on a warship. Each is composed of depleted uranium. Combine with a muzzle velocity of a million meters per second and the damage created is nothing short of a battleship can shrug off. The gun/cannon rounds are chambered by specially designed replicators in the center of each tube. Each round is manufactured in the barrel, ready to fire. The slug is a super-heavy material and the inside of each one contains a solid core of lithium deuteride. Depending on the density of the enemy’s hull, the projectile tears right through it. If the target point is sufficiently solid, the heat and compression from the impact will result in a nuclear detonation. The gun/cannon reload system will fire two volleys per second; a limitation of the replicator.

Ripley: settled less than 2 years ago, this Kulu world suddenly went silent, with two supply ships reported overdue. A company of Marines was dispatched to investigate, only to discover that the original survey team had missed thousands of lethal creatures that hibernated deep under the ground. The creatures had woken up and attacked the colonists, who had been completely unprepared for their arrival and were wiped out. Even the heavily-armed Marines had serious problems keeping themselves alive. Currently the entire planet is quarantined, although that hadn't stopped hunters and thrill-seekers from trying to pit themselves against the creatures: most of them don't come back.

Shipping Guilds:

Slaughterhouse: this premier training world has a heavy jungle canopy. It is also the location of all combat training for the Kulu Marines. Every recruit spends a year on this world, learning about weapons, combat tactics, hand-to-hand combat techniques, and survivalism. For hundreds of years the marines have used the Slaughterhouse to train their most elite armed forces. The true size of the Kulu Marine Force us unknown but estimates vary around the 200,000 range.

Spektor: a large city-planet located deep within Kulu space, this world has a population of over 500 billion people and is enormously economically productive. It is one of the primary worlds of the Kingdom, a place where crime and graft are almost unknown due to constant AI monitoring of the populace.

Spinal Mount Weapons: the Kulu Navy relies heavily on these weapons for their capital ships. Most are some type of laser but a newer version is based on nanotech replicator technology and fires a large slug of ultradense metal at near-c speeds at enemy ships.

Stasis Fields: a effective defense against enemy vessels, the Kulu Navy has mounted these types of shields only on its capital warships due to high cost of the system. Encased in this near-impenetrable energy field, Kingdom warships can survive in nearly any combat situation. This high-tech military technology is never sold to anyone outside of the Kulu Kingdom.

Steppenwolf World: slang term for a rogue planet, one without a star. It is estimated that there are more than 400 billion steppenwolf planets in and around the Three Galaxies, far more than there are stars. Most rogue planets are frozen and dead but occasionally an interesting alien race or technology can be found on these wandering worlds. It is theorized that every star system spits out a large number of these worlds early on in their development into more stable star systems.

Winds of Yellowstone: a Kulu planet with an unusual biosphere, Yellowstone was first colonized in the dead of winter. However, the robot probe marking the planet for colonization never had time to discover the 1,500 mph winds that occur each summer as it passes pole on to its primary star. Survival has been a struggle for the colonists ever since, but they now live underground and in large sub-surface canyons and caves.

Wolfbane World War: inhabited by humans for thousands of years, this planet is balkanized but also part of the Kulu Kingdom. Three years ago several dominant nations on the planet went to war, which spiraled out of control into a terrible conflagration. More than 800 million people were killed in the global nuclear exchange. Today Kulu peacekeepers enforce the armistice on Wolfbane.

Xanthe Bright: a Kulu citizen and the owner of Bright Marketing, the largest advertising company in the Anvil Galaxy.

Xenoengineer: A high-tech scientist specializing in utilizing alien technologies, usually very advanced ones. These types of trouble-shooters are generally from wealthy worlds with very advanced technology. The CCW civilian bureaucracy has several teams specializing in this area.

Zootsuits: slang for the combat suits made specifically for the Kulu Marines, they are lightweight power armor that is extremely effective on the battlefield. However, they cost an enormous amount of money (nearly the same cost as a destroyer warship) so only a few thousand have been built.
